If you recently moved to a new house and are looking to buy appliances, it is important to choose the right appliances from the beginning. This is not only because appliances are quite troublesome to (un-)install, but also influence your overall quality of life in your new place. For example, a washing machine is often a necessity in many households. With today's high energy bills, you would want to buy a washing machine that efficiently helps you with your laundry. You also do not want to spend too much time shopping for it and waiting for its arrival as you would most likely need it before you run out of clothes!
What to look for?
A good start would be to ask yourself whether you should simply be looking for an ordinary washing machine. We believe that there is an alternative to washing machines worth considering, that is the washer dryer combination. If you are not acquainted with these devices, they are simply a combination of a washing machine and a dryer in one device. While these devices often do not come cheaper than a washing machine, they could save you a lot of drying time or money spent on a new dryer. Not to mention the reduced space it would occupy than if you had to purchase a washing machine and a dryer separately. Washer Dryer Combos often come at dimensions 85cm x 60 cm x 60 cm for height, width and depth. This is not very different from a normal washing machine!
You would want to look for a machine with a reasonable washing capacity and drying capacity as these are often different with the former being larger. We take a washing capacity of 10 KG and drying capacity of 6 KG to be standard. Secondly, the energy label is an important criterion. Unfortunately, washer dryer combinations are generally not energy-efficient machines, with the normal energy label being around E. However, this is generally compensated by the cost and space saving, alongside the comfort of instantly drying your clothes after a wash without your interference through the "combo" setting. And, of course, you can simply wash or dry only!
Our Product Recommendation
With the above factors considered, we recommend the Hisense WDQA1014EVJM. Its washing and drying capacities are in line with the above mentioned standards. It also has a D energy label, which is slightly better than the standard E label for washer dryer combinations. This is while costing around 600 Euros (~650 US$) which puts it on the lower end of market prices compared to other renowned brands with the typical 2 year warranty. This is a rather value-for-money deal!
Comparison with other Brands
To highlight the value of our recommended machine compared to market offering, we resort to our comparative analysis where we illustrate our estimated performance quality ratings against the approximate market price. In this comparison, we consider five other washer dryer combinations from renowned manufacturers, namely Samsung WD80T554ABT, Bosch WDU8H541EU, Whirlpool FFWDB 964369 WV EE, Roborock WD10001RR4Z and LG GD3R509S0. Our analysis is depicted in the chart below where the Hisense is marked in red.
The Hisense is cheaper than most presented alternatives, designating it as value-for-money. Since washer dryer combinations are generally expensive machines with prices often approaching 700 Euros (780 US$), the Hisense stands at a price that is well below the market average with the difference amounting to more than a whole year's energy bill in most countries in Europe. At the same time, none of these machines have an energy label that is higher than D. Furthermore, the Hisense enjoys a good quality rating by market standards, that is slightly higher than the Whirlpool which stands at the same price due to the Hisense's large washing capacity.
